Project description

SKF Österreich AG is a subsidiary of the Swedish group SKF, a specialist manufacturer of bearings, seals and lubrication systems. Quality Technology (QT), an international business unit of the SKF Group based in Steyr and part of SKF Österreich, develops and manufactures highly specialised testing and measuring equipment for SKF. To support knowledge management across SKF’s different locations and make everyone in the group aware of QT’s expertise, a newsletter is to be used as a push medium. In other words, the information will be brought to the recipients; they will not have to look for it.

The challenge

All SKF companies are to be kept informed about new technical developments at QT and will thus benefit from the innovations in quality assurance. QT decides to do this by email with the newsletter as a PDF attachment. That ensures that the newsletter is displayed and laid out in the same way, even if its recipients around the world have different email formats or clients. The newsletter is to be compact (a single page), informative, interesting and, of course, technically accurate.

Solution

The template in Adobe InDesign can be modified for each new issue of the newsletter to suit requirements. The research for each issue will encompass not just the technical information from data sheets and the documentation but also conversations with developers. The key information on the new developments can then be presented accurately and informatively. The newsletter is to be written in English because it will be distributed all over the world.
